Route A40 from direction Duisburg

• Drive on A40 direction Essen.
• Take the exit no. 23 direction "Essen-Zentrum (Ost)" and follow the direction "Zentrum".
• Please drive straight ahead (first on the "Helbingstraße", then on the "Bernestraße", the name changes after several hundred meters into "Schützenbahn").
• You drive straight on under the "Rathausgalerie" through. Now you are on the road named "Schützenbahn".
• After you have driven under a footbridge, you should turn to the right into the "Gerlingstraße".
• The parking area of the University is situated on the left side. To reach the parking area you have to make a turnaround. And turn right into the Waldthausenstraße to the first parking area. You can reach the second parking area from the Gerlingstraße. Both parking areas are closed and will be opened only for registered visitors. At the main campus in Essen (Hauptcampus) there is a public parking deck at the Universitätsstraße, which you can use as an alternative. You reach the Campus Schützenbahn after a 10 min. walk by feet.
• Go to the building S-A ("Schützenbahn Altbau).
• The chair "Didactics of Informatics" is located on the second floor in the rooms S-A 222-225.

Route A40 from direction Bochum

• Drive on A40 direction Essen.
• Take the exit no. 23 direction "Essen-Zentrum (Ost)" and follow the direction "Zentrum".
• Follow the direction "Universität" and drive straight ahead direction "Schauspielhaus".
• You pass the shopping center "Limbecker Platz". Drive around the shopping center, then to the right in the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße und drive straight on.
• At the cross-way you turn to the right and drive dirtectly to the left in the Gerlingstraße.
• The parking area of the University is situated on the left side. To reach the parking area you have to make a turnaround. And turn right into the Waldthausenstraße to the first parking area. You can reach the second parking area from the Gerlingstraße. Both parking areas are closed and will be opened only for registered visitors. At the main campus in Essen (Hauptcampus) there is a public parking deck at the Universitätsstraße, which you can use as an alternative. You reach the Campus Schützenbahn after a 10 min. walk by feet.

Route A42 from the directions Oberhausen or Gelsenkirchen

• Take the motorway exit "Essen-Nord" and proceed onto the B224 (Gladbecker Straße) in direction "Essen-Zentrum".
• Proceed on B224 for approx. 10 minutes (6 km).
• Turn left at the underground station "Rheinischer Platz" on the street "Viehofer Platz".
• At the next crossway turn right in the street "Schützenbahn" and then turn left into the "Gerlingstraße".

Route A3 / A52 from direction Cologne/Düsseldorf

• When you are coming from Cologne on the A3, you should drive on the A52 at the motorway junction "Breitscheider Kreuz" in direction Essen.
• Take the exit no. 29 "Essen Süd" and drive in direction “Essen-Zentrum” (circa 3km)
• You drive straight on under the "Rathausgalerie" through. Now you are on the road named "Schützenbahn".
• After you have driven straight on under a footbridge, you should turn to the right into the "Gerlingstraße".
• The parking area of the University is situated on the left side. To reach the parking area you have to make a turnaround. And turn right into the Waldthausenstraße to the first parking area. Route from the main campus in Essen to the Schützenbahn campus

At the campus in Essen there is a public parking deck at the Universitätsstraße marked with "P".

With the bus-shuttle

• You can use the special bus shuttle between the campuses without a registration.
• Please find here the departure times of the shuttles.
• Map of the bus stop at the main campus in Essen marked as "Sonderlinie".
• Map of the bus stop Viehofer Platz (Schützenbahn) marked as "Haltestelle 3"

By feet

• You can walk from the main campus in Essen to the Schützenbahn within 10-15 minutes.
• Please go from the Universitätsstraße to the right rechts on the Gladbecker Straße.
• Turn to the left from the Gladbecker Straße to Viehofer Platz.
• At the cross-way Viehofer Platz/Schützenbahn you cross the road with three stop lights, then you can see the building S-A in front of you at the left.

When you have reached the building S-A

By feet

• Go upstairs to the second floor. The stairs are in front of the main entrance at the left side.
• In the second floor go to the left and pass through the glass door. At the end of the corridor you will find the chair DDI at the left in the rooms S-A 222-225.

By lift

• You can reach the lift when you go from the main entrance to the right, pass through the glass door and go ahead until you can see the lift on the right side.
• Drive to the second floor, you will see the chair DDI on opposite side of the lift in the rooms S-A 222-225.

Arrival by train at main station Essen

• Journey planner of the Deutsche Bahn: www.bahn.de.
• Journey planner of the public transport www.vrr.de or www.evag.de.
• From the main station it takes only two stations by tram to reach the chair at the Schützenbahn 70.
• The tram is in the basement of the train station, where also the undergrounds start. Follow the blue signs to the exit "Freiheit" and "U" and "Tram".
• When you leaved the building at the exit, go to the right and then downstairs to the underground station, rail track 1.
• Take the tram 106 direction "Altenessen Bf. Schleife" or 107 with direction "Gelsenkirchen Hbf." from rail track 1. Usually they operate in 10-minute intervals. You have to pay the "Kurzstreckentarif", the price for short distances.
• After two stops you will arrive at the station "Viehofer Platz".
• Go to the right to the exit Viehofer Platz, go upstairs and turn to the left to cross the street. If you need an elevator, you can go to the exit Gerlingstraße, where also the ticket machine is.
• After you have crossed the street by traffic light, you can see the university building S-A in front of you at the left.

When you have reached the building S-A

By feet

• Go upstairs to the second floor. The stairs are in front of the main entrance at the left side.
• In the second floor go to the left and pass through the glass door. At the end of the corridor you will find the chair DDI at the left in the rooms S-A 222-225.

By lift

• You can reach the lift when you go from the main entrance to the right, pass through the glass door and go ahead until you can see the lift on the right side.
• Drive to the second floor, you will see the chair DDI on opposite side of the lift in the rooms S-A 222-225.
